Klaus Schiess PE, CEM holds a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has worked in South Africa, Germany and Switzerland before coming to America in 1978. Since 1987 he has been president of his own consulting firm KSEngineers in La Jolla, California. The firm specializes in feasibility studies, design, specification and supervision, or peer reviews of mainly energy-related HVAC and energy conservation projects.
Thermal Energy Storage (TES) has been and is Klaus’s “first love” alas often sorrowful because for the last 20 years TES has been the most neglected permanent load shift (PLS) opportunity. But the renewable energies such as wind and solar may just force a renaissance of TES to assist the smart grid.
